Now’s Your Chance: Sing The Jingle, Be A Star
A new contest is giving jingle singers the opportunity to cut the mustard-and that’s no bologna.
Now through Sept. 4, 2006, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile vehicles will be cruising coast-to-coast giving aspiring vocalists a chance to show off their stuff in the “Sing the Jingle, Be a Star” contest. Hopeful jingle fans have the chance to enter the national “casting call” by singing their own rendition of the Oscar Mayer Wiener Jingle, the Bologna Song or the Oscar Mayer Spanish Jingle to land a spot in the limelight.
Rolling Out the Red Carpet
Mercury recording artist and country music sensation Julie Roberts is encouraging rising stars across the country to enter the contest.
“Ever since I was a little girl, singing has been my passion, so I’m thrilled to partner with Oscar Mayer to support the ‘Sing the Jingle, Be a Star’ contest,” said Roberts. “It’s such a fun opportunity for everyone to show off their vocal talent and personal style.”
On their cross-country trek, Hotdoggers-the official drivers of the Wienermobiles-will be making stops at events nationwide to film performing fans young and old (at least 6 years of age). Whether it’s rapped or sung with a country flair, hot dog and bologna lovers are asked to sing their own rendition of one of the three-famed Oscar Mayer jingles. Five lucky winners will receive a chance to star in a national television commercial.
Mail-in entries should include a VHS or DVD (no longer than one minute) along with an official entry form (available online at singthejingle.com). All mail-in entries must be received by Aug. 21, 2006 and sent to Sing the Jingle Entries, P.O. Box 5652, Blair, NE 68009-5652.
Five Lucky Dogs
Twenty finalists (16 performed in English, four in Spanish) will be selected and posted online from Oct. 26-Nov. 27, 2006. During this time frame, fans can log on to singthejingle.com to vote for their favorite finalist or find additional details on how to vote via cell phone, ballot form or mail. America’s vote, along with a panel of appointed judges, will narrow the pool of 20 finalists to five grand-prize winners (four performed in English, one in Spanish) who will have the chance to appear in a national Oscar Mayer television commercial. Judging will be based on the following criteria: overall performance, style and creativity and suitability for inclusion in an Oscar Mayer television commercial.

Selling your Art Online - Website Tips For Artists
If you plan to sell your art online with your own unique website, my advice is simple: Be Different! There are hundreds of artist websites online today that are all making the same mistakes.
The first problem I would like to note, is the use of long multimedia presentations that artists are incorporating into their websites. I don’t think there is anything more frustrating then arriving at a website and waiting for this huge multimedia presentation to download and play. The artist may think it’s cool or adds something to their work, but in all actuality, it only frustrates impatient surfers. Not all Internet users have super fast cable or DSL connections. Many are still using dial up modems and if they have to wait for something to download, they will simply leave and visit your competition.
There are also sites that insist on putting unrelated banner ads or other unrelated advertising on their websites. Just the other day I was doing a search for original watercolor art. The first website I arrived at had a big banner at the top of the website advertising a dating site. I am not sure how dating is related to watercolors? This is simply a distraction and you are immediately sending visitors off your website. If you are going to advertise on your website, make sure it’s related to the theme of your website and is helpful to your visitors. Do not make it the very first thing they see when they arrive at your home page.
You need to catch your visitor’s attention right away. This means putting your most important information near the top of your website in plain view. Your goal is to draw your visitor into your site immediately with a compelling headline so that they stay long enough to check out what you have to offer. Once you draw them in with a good headline, you must then direct them to take an action. That could be to subscribe to your newsletter, or to check out your latest product(s).
Keep your site navigation consistent throughout your entire site. This means having the same navigation links in the same order on every page of your website. Your goal is to make it as easy as possible for your visitors to get from one place to the next, not to confuse them.
Make sure your visitors can easily contact you. Put a link to a contact page on every page of your site.
If you have testimonials, use them. Testimonials are awesome sales tools. People love to hear good reviews about a product or products they are about to purchase. It really does boost sales. If you have ever received testimonials from customers, highlight a few of them on your home page in clear view. If you do not have testimonials yet, contact people that have purchased from you in the past and ask if they could provide feedback on the product they purchased for inclusion on your website. Make sure they know how you plan to use their testimonial, and ask if you can site their name with the testimonial.
Start an opt-in newsletter. If you do not already have a method for collecting your visitors email addresses, then you may be losing sales. Many people who first come to your site will usually leave without making a purchase. It is important therefore to collect as many email addresses as possible so that you can follow up with your visitors. You could send out an announcement to your list of subscribers whenever you have a new piece for sale. If you regularly attend art or craft shows, you could send out an email and let your subscribers know when and where. You could also send out surveys or questionnaires to your list to get a better idea as to the type of products they are interested in purchasing.
Make certain that you have a variety of different payment options for your customers, especially payment by credit card. Studies have shown that sites, which accept credit card payments, have significantly more sales. Use a service like PayPal to accept credit cards from your website. It’s free and easy to setup.
Make sure you have detailed purchasing and shipping instructions in place.
Have a good refund policy. When your customer receives your product, it may not be exactly what they anticipated. By having a good refund policy upfront, you will gain your customers trust and they will be more comfortable making a purchase, especially if they are parting with a lot of money.
Include a “Privacy Policy”. Internet users are a paranoid bunch. People are still somewhat reluctant to part with personal information, so it is your job to make them feel at ease when they use your website. In a nutshell, a privacy policy clearly states what you do with users personal information. What kind of information do you collect from your visitors? What do you do with that information? Do you share it with anyone? If you are not sure how to create a privacy policy, visit the following website to access an easy to use Privacy Policy Generator: .the-dma.org/privacy/creating.shtml
Include a “Terms of Use” section. This section outlines the terms and conditions for using your website. For instance, you probably want to restrict visitors from copying or reproducing the images on your website. You would put that in your Terms of Use section.
When adding images of your products, always use thumbnails that can be clicked to show a larger image, so that your pages download quickly. If the larger image is a big file, let the visitor know that they may have to wait for the picture to load.
Avoid putting traffic counters on your site. Counters make your site appear amateurish. If your site is fairly new, and your traffic is not yet established, you are broadcasting this to everyone that arrives at your site. If you need to track your website statistics, check with your hosting company. You may already have a good website statistics program included.
Choose a basic color scheme and only one or two different fonts. If you go overboard on color and use too many different fonts, your site will look out of balance and amateurish. Your website does not have to be a work of art. You are trying to sell your art, not your website.
Use a light background, preferably white, with dark text, preferably black. Don’t use images or textures for your background. This makes it difficult for your visitor to read the text on your site.
Avoid adding music to your site. You may think it sounds nice to include your favorite songs when your page loads, but not everyone will agree. If they find the music annoying, they will leave.
Don’t make your visitor have to scroll horizontally to view information on your website. Web surfers are lazy. Most hate to even scroll up and down let alone left and right.
Avoid animated graphics and scrolling or flashing text. This only distracts your visitors.
Put prices on all of your products. If people have to contact you to find out the price of something, they will more often than not leave and look elsewhere.
Make sure your site works in all the major browsers. The most popular browser today is Internet Explorer, but there are a good amount of surfers who use Netscape, Opera, and Firefox. Check out .anybrowser.com/siteviewer.html. They have a great tool that enables you to see what your site looks like in various browsers.
Lastly, make your website personal. Speak to your visitors. Let them know who you are and what your art or craft is all about. Educate and enlighten. Include a step-by-step article or demonstration on how your work is created. If people have more of a connection with you and your art, they will be more comfortable buying from you.
I hope these website tips have helped. I wish you the best of luck in everything that you do. God Bless!
Emigration from U.K is on Cards but have a property here.
Shifting your geographical location often evokes mixed feelings of nostalgia and excitement. We peep into the past to relive and relish the bygone days while we keep cherishing the dreams that we foresee for our future. It’s perhaps one of the life’s most contrasting episodes woven with pains and pleasures.
Retirement, job change, transfer, family needs or possibly anything can be the reason of emigration. Emigration from U.K, besides many others, can be problematic for people who wanted to sell off their property before leaving the country.
Finding right buyer for your property these days in U.K is a daunting task because of the sluggish economy and low mortgage approval rates. And in addition if you have time constraints then finding a potential buyer in open market can be pie in the sky.
Often people not very conversant with the process of a property sale in the open market go to real estate agents. Real estate agents can help you but only when they are able to find the right buyers for you. You have to be prepared for a whole lot of uncertainty and knowing that it could take a long time to close the deal. Plus, it may happen that when you are on the verge of closing the deal, you came to know the buyer backtracked. That means you have to restart the whole process.
When you have paucity of time and you are not so sure of closing the deal, just strike the right chord by approaching private investors or cash buyers of property. The cash buyers buy your property within the timeframe you provide to them. They take care of the entire mortgage balance, if any, on your property. At a measly discounted market rate they buy your house and pay you cash for the equity you have in your house.
The advantages of dealing with cash home buyers can be summed up as:
• Be debt free: You can pay off all your debts and move away
• Move house easily: They offer a guaranteed completion date - so you can move when you want.
• Get cash fast: You can get hold of the money tied up in your home &ndash quickly
• No hassles: You do not have to get into costly and complicated process of selling property. They take care of entire proceedings.
Dealing with cash buyers of property, if you are looking for a fast deal, can actually help you saving your time and efforts. Not to speak of the hassles and pains that one normally has to undergo while selling a property in U.K, especially when you have time constraints.
Video Games - Tune In To What’s In!
The eternal quest for entertainment leads us to the virtual world of video games, and mind you it’s a huge world out there. With companies coming out with newer, revolutionary games, that are even more challenging, have enhanced graphics, integrated realism, and other awesome effects in their games practically every fortnight, it’s difficult to see which ones made the cut.
There’s a huge gaming community out there and it’s fair to say that what’s popular with them is probably worthy of a mention. However, scrubbing through the popular games to determine which one ranks top most is no easy feat.
While the top positions are constantly shifting around, some of the games that have made it to the top this year are:
Halo 3
This game is simply brilliant; it incorporates all that worked well in the previous “Halo” games and has mush more to offer. One of the key points that makes this game refreshing is the fact that the enemies in the game are perhaps as smart as the player itself so its all the more challenging and fun. The makers have also suped-up the multiplayer options and the feature of “Saved film” incorporates a PC idea with console like accessibility.
Super Mario Galaxy
An all time favourite and a legend in its self the Mario games have yet again made it to the top with Super Mario returning and a space adventure riddled with action that has enhanced gameplays and moves away from the dull and common routines making way for some really interesting variety. Packed with surprises the game feel fresh and new despite the fact that it probably a rehash of its predecessors. The graphics are great and sparkle, while the controls prove nicely tight. Is it any surprise then that Super Mario has made it to the top again?
Rock Band
It looks like the purchase of Harmonix by MTV is finally paying off. This game is lets four players, a guitarist, bass guitarist, Drummer and Vocalist have a blast on or offline through the revolutionary rock band rhythms game. It features loads of tunes licensed from several big record labels. Although it’s not completely perfect in the sense that it really lacks the “world tour” bit to give it that touch of making it big, Yet it give people a chance to explore a perhaps unfulfilled ambition as a musician in a rock band and it works out great as a substitute for those who just won’t be able to ever play onstage with real music instruments.
BioShock
Designed for play on the Xbox and PC its setting is based in an alternative reality that’s an underwater battleground. There’s a lot of strategy and thinking involved in this first person shooter game. Attacks from mutants and mechanical drones that roam across this underwater world make for a very interesting game. An intriguing game it captivates the players right from the beginning where the primary player “Jack” ends up on the scene thanks to a plane crash over the Atlantic Ocean. From then on Jack makes his way through the game advised by different charters, he learns his of his origins and the purpose he is there. It’s a real thrilling game and definitely worth trying out.
Portal
Part of the 5 games constituting ‘The Orange Box’, ‘Portal’ turns out to be a pleasant surprise this year. This unique and innovative game is a puzzle of sorts with an excellent story line. The puzzle game is based on the concept of a special gum which is used to shoot portals and create worm holes to enter and exit them from time to time as well as to zap objects. The gun can be operated on almost all of the flat surfaces in the puzzle. What makes this game special are the excellent number of loops, comic narratives and excellent graphics and audio. The theme song of this game which you can hear towards the end is a work of genius.
Call of Duty - 4
Fourth release in the series of the same name, Call of Duty - 4 is a master piece from X-Box. This latest entry gives a powerful and dramatic sense of realism and a sense of immediacy to the player. The game offers you a choice of playing a US Marine as well as a British S.A.S. This gives the game a unique global appeal as players are drawn to it with a sense of loyalty and patriotism. Drawn from the latest experiences of war, this game will take the player across the globe, from one extreme battleground to another, be it the Middle East or Russia. Rendering images from the worst offerings of modern warfare, you will be enthralled by the reality of war and its effects in the real world. All said and done, this game will surely keep you on your toes.

The new video on demand website launched Wednesday, 12 March 2008 and is supported through advertising. Sound familiar? O.K. So it is somewhat like TV. Who cares? It is still a real entertainment alternative - a real entertainment value, and the Tennessee Mountain Man predicts it will be a big hit.
Like Tivo, you can fast forward, pause, etc. The only draw back is that if you are fast forwarding to skip an advertisement it won’t exactly work. You will land on an ad you must allow to play to continue watching the movie.

Frasier (Season 2) DVD Discussion
Even love the shows Seinfeld and Friends, Frasier, the Kelsey Grammar Cheers spin-off, dominated the NBC prime age TV lineup throughout the 1990s. Grammar stars in the name role of Dr. Frasier Crane who, recently divorced, moves back to his at ease megalopolis of Seattle, Washington. Landing a gig as a radio psychiatrist, Frasier reluctantly agrees to let his father Marty (John Mahoney), a Seattle cop recently shot in an attempted robbery, act into his fresh bachelor pad. Both Frasier and his younger brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) accomplish a concerted accomplishment to mend the accord with their estranged father whose mild guzzling friends, plaid shirt wardrobe, and weathered recliner strike a dramatic contrast with the boys and their pretentious social circles. Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves) acts as Frasier’s live-in housekeeper and Marty’s personal physical therapist.
The Frasier (Season 2) DVD offers a figure of hilarious episodes including page #40 where Sam Malone (Ted Danson) visits Frasier in Seattle. Sam fills Frasier in on what the several members of the Cheers gang are immediately up to. In the abutting to at the end page of the season, Frasier and Niles (against Martin’s help) buy a restaraunt they enjoyed during their adolescence and rename it “Les Freres Heureux” or “The Cheerful Brothers”. The two inevitably amble the process into the ground (on opening after dark, nonetheless)…

Interactive Movies Help Improve Reading Skills
During infancy, kids listen to family members and often try to replicate what they hear. As children grow, associating symbols with sounds becomes critical to language development, and experts say it’s more important in learning to read than most parents realize.
When it comes to reading, children must discriminate individual sounds before they can put them together to build words. Studies show playing rhyming games and sounding out words with your children helps develop their reading skills. But what about watching television?
According to a 2004 study published in The Journal of Biological Psychiatry, associating symbols with sound, especially in the form of narrative, plays a large role in the proper development of reading skills.
In the study, two groups of children with poor reading skills were examined to determine which learning approach was more effective: traditional remedial reading, special education, speech and language tutoring or reading lessons built around sound and symbol associations contained in narrative. The group that was given reading lessons with sound and symbol associations enjoyed learning more and had a dramatic improvement in their reading skills and fluency.
Based on this and other research, one company has developed an enjoyable way for students to improve reading, comprehension and development skills early on, and it involves watching television - specifically children’s movies.
Reading Movies, part of the ReadEnt learning program developed by SFK Media Specially for Kids Corp., are interactive movies that use “Action Caption” technology to show the spoken word on the screen, in real time, as the character speaks. The words appear out of the mouths of the speakers with clarity and with no disruption to the flow of the movie. As children watch the movies, their reading and spoken language skills develop naturally.
Reading Movies are available in a set of three DVDs featuring adaptations of literary stories many know and love: Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” Jonathan Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Trojan Horse,” adapted from Homer’s “The Odyssey.” So what does this all mean for parents? No more guilt for letting your kids watch TV.
